Waiting Doesn’t Work

Waiting Doesn’t Work

As I write this, I’m sitting in Knock airport, January 2026, preparing to board a flight to a new city, to start a new degree, living in a new house. It’s a strange concoction of emotions that range from nerves, to excitement, to anxiety, switching seamlessly like the weather that I’m about to fly away from.

These feelings are familiar however, as just over two months ago, Soleful was launched.

Sitting here reminiscing, I vividly remember the feeling before I announced Soleful on my social media, until that point, only my nearest and dearest were aware of my new venture. The causation of my feelings now, and then, are a lot different however.

In November, my worries revolved around other people, irrespective of their place in my life.

My main two worries were:

(1). What people would think? What if people stop talking to me? Sometimes, I even worried about the opinions of people I may have never met in real life, that just know me through a phone screen, stupid right?

(2). Have I done enough preparation? Is the product ready? The packaging ready? I am ready?

Although, I’ve spent months in a never ending cycle of researching, designing and ordering products, I could have spent another year doing the same thing and would never have been 100% satisfied. However, I had to take the jump at some stage & that was the best decision I’ve ever made. I was confident with the product I had created but would that be enough for other people? Who’s to say that the product I’d end up with in 6 more months would be much better?

The second aforementioned worry is more familiar now as I sit on this plane. However, I’m definitely more confident about being ‘ready’.

I believe the reason I feel this way is down to my realisation that being ready actually isn’t a feeling, it’s a decision.

The perfect time to plant a tree was 50 years ago, second best time is now.
