The Soleful Story- The Emotional reasoning.

The Soleful Story- The Emotional reasoning.

In the latter end of the previous blog post, I talked about the clarity of the thoughts in my head during the challenge. I also forgot to mention, I completed this challenge to raise funds for two charities, Pieta House and Focus Ireland. I chose these charities as they carry out life changing work in our country.

Through this fundraiser, we raised €6500 to be split evenly between these two charities and I really hope this money has been put to good use by attempting to fight problems that effect hundreds of people every single day. During this run, I often thought about the people who are helped by these charities, people who don’t have a place to call home and people suffering mentally, and that the challenges they face are monumentally larger than my problem of having to run, which I have now realised is a privilege.

Pieta house provide life saving services for people struggling mentally in Ireland. The staff at Pieta, help people out of a dark place in their life. Although, like the large majority of people, I’ve had poor moments of mental health, I can thankfully say I’ve never been in a position to utilise the amazing services Pieta provides, but, I have no doubt in their ability to save lives.

Whilst running, I listened to a ‘Modern Wisdom’ podcast by Christ Williamson. He refers to a statistic saying that, although these services, similar to Pieta, are amazing, a large percentage, something around 80-90% of people who are in these dark places in their lives reach out, they fail to escape the grasp of their mind.

This got me wondering, what if we could reach people who are struggling mentally or don’t have a place to call home, before their mental health deteriorates to a place of seemingly unrepairable damage. What if we could inspire people to live another day? To chase a dream that has been in their mind? What if we could give these people an opportunity to recognise and establish a purpose? Simply talking, What if we could inspire them to chase something that gives them a reason to wake up tomorrow morning?

This could be a naive idea, however, I feel like if you could inspire belief in people, to run the risk of chasing a dream, you could end up saving a life. However, to achieve this, people need to see that be able to see or hear things & we understand that these aren’t comfortable conversations to have.

So that’s where our first drop came from. A three step process that could inspire someone, somewhere, to live another day.

Dare to Dream- focus on a dream, write it down, make it bigger.

Run the Risk- run the risk of it going wrong, live and learn.

Believe Achieve- believe in yourself, your goal and your ability to connect the two.
